Digitech DriversI have been trying to use Sonar Home Studio 6 with Digitechs GNX4 for several months with mixed results. The main problem I seem to have is with the USB Drivers. It seems like I have to uninstall and reload the drivers each time I turn off the computer or GNX4. THe drivers generally appear correctly in Windows Device Manager, but not allways. I'll check the sound properties and usually have to change the recording settings to reflect 'Digitech USB 1-2'. I have disabled the onboard 'Soundmax' audio to avoid any conflicts, as well as AV software and anything else I can do without. The thing is, once all the settings are correct, which usually requires uninstalling and reloading the drivers from the original CD, I can record, playback, whatever.
When I come back later, after shutting down computer or GNX4, I'll open a project to find the input and output drivers have changed (say from Digitech USB 1-2 to USB 3-4.) Now USB 1-2 isn't even listed as a choice. I have an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Board, 2.4 Ghz P4 Processor, 1.5 GB RAM.
It sure doesn't seem like it should be this difficult to have some consistency.Any Help Appreciated. I tried plugging GNX4 into different USB port on the computer (no additional USB hubs attached). As far as the ASIO drivers, when I try and use them I get the message 'There are no Creative Audio Products installed and running on system that support ASIO drivers' I suppose I have some general confusion as to how this all works in the first place.Am I wrong in thinking I can use the GNX4 for both input and output?
Do I need an additional sound card. I have a creative sound blaster card (not installed), but if the GNX4 is a sound card in itself, why would I need it.
I moved from a GNX4 to a GNX3000 a while back so I bought those too. No updates for the 3000. I still get the updates for the 4 though. Even though I sold it. In hindsight I'd get the gnx4 before the 3000 if I bought another. Now I'm on to the GSP-1101 and wishing he made supermodels for those!
I haven't resolved these issues, but have a fresh perspective since Fed Ex dropped off my new version of Sonar 7 'With Pretty good documentation'. This XP machine has been used for multiple purposes for a couple years and probably has multiple conflicts that will never be resolved without a clean windows install.(In Progress).HOWEVER.I feel a little overwhelmed because of all the different opinions, but the one thing I can't seem to get a definitive answer on, is using the GNX4 as my 'Sound Card' in conjunction with the ASIO USB Drivers.
I understand that I need to select ASIO as my driver mode in the 'Wave Profiler' and I understand there is no need to run 'Wave profiler' using ASIO as my driver mode.A: Do I need to install the ASIO Driver only or.B: DO I also need to install the Digitech drivers and choose them as my input/output drivers in Options Audio? (To use GNX4 as My Sound Card?C: Are there any updated 'Digitech Drivers' beyond the 4/18/2003 versions that I have?
If so where are they being held prisonerD: In regard to Choosing MIDI drivers under Options/MIDI devices, Will I use the DIGITECH USB MIDI driver as the input and Digitech USB 1-2 Audio Device as the output driver (To use GNX4 as My Sound Card?)(To hear MIDI Playback from my powered speakers through the GNX4?)I'm trying to figure this out prior to installing Sonar 7, not only to avoid conusion, but to avoid loading and uninstalling unnecessary drivers. Some posts say 'don't select the digitech drivers as your audio in and out, because they make a terrible noise. Use the drivers for your sound card instead'. 'I want to use the GNX4 as my sound card instead of the 'onboard SoundMAX' card'Beleiver it or not, I really can create and edit tracks on my own when these issues are resolved.Thanx in advance & any help is greatly appreciated for tips, advice, tricks, input.I will also enter these questions as a new post:SUBJECT: Questions using GNX4 as my Sound Card;,Running in ASIO Driver Mode.
First of all, thank you for your help. Secondly, I apologize for the second thread. I thought I wasn't getting enough answers, when really I was. The one thing I don't think people with driver problems know or remember, is that a fresh Windows and hardware driver installation (however drastic) will cure most problems.
Windows is not at all forgiving, even when your positive you removed that offending program or driver. Now that all is said and done, Sonar and Digitech work great together consistently. Finally, I Rock and Record!
